I am purchasing a '96 Sundowner Aluminum 3 horse trailer with a weekender type LQ package (6 foot short wall). The trailer is 20 feet long and its GVWR is rated at 9,800 lbs. What I don't know is the empty weight of the trailer. I am assuming that it is around 6,000, but I would like to get confirmation that I am close.

No offense but this is a common question on this site. The ONLY way to know is to take it to a Cat scale (or other vehicle/truck scale) and get it weighed. You don't have to disconnect it from the tow vehicle, the scales can tell you how much the trailer weighs even connected. Any weight someone tells you without showing you a weight ticket should be suspect.

If it's an 8' wide Sunlite, it's going to be close to 8000 pounds empty, based on the one I had. If it's narrower, I have no idea. Mine was really heavy for the size.
