Just bought an old trailer that I think the breakaway battery is dead. Looking on Amazon you can get a 12v 4amp hour batter for about $15. It is for a UPS system. Local trailer dealer wants $30+ for a battery. Are these universal. I would think so but don't want to order it and have it screw something up.

They are pretty much universal except by cost, with some dealers pricing as much as possible. If they are constantly recharged, they will last a while, less so if not.

Depending on how old, you might want to replace the whole system. The new battery boxes have charge indicators as well as charge isolators built in. A new switch isn't a bad idea either.
E-bay has some great deals (my source)
The universal battery is a UB 1250 About $20 each on E-bay

Thanks, I have ordered the battery on Amazon. I may put in a new system but will wait on that until it gets warmer and I can check out the system more thoroughly. I am pretty sure I am going to replace the break mechanisms on each wheel this year. The trailer has sat unused for about 10 years we were told. I appreciate the responses. The batteries appeared to be the same, I just wanted some conformation. 19
