Have been following this situation on facebook. The ARs are in cahoots with the real estate people and it is a real mess. Watching to see how it will play out. If deBlasio is able to get rid of the carriage horses, then what is next? A lot of service animals could go too, such as police horses and so on. Animal rights are out to get all animal ownership by humans banned. I don't understand why.....if they don't want to have animals, no one is forcing them...... There is a lot of very heated rhetoric.....worth watching......

Edita Birnkrant, the New York director of Friends of Animals, likened the horses’ working conditions to prison.“They are shackled into their carriages, pulling through streets of a chaotic unnatural environment and go back to their cells,” she said. “They need the ability to graze and roam freely. They never get that in New York. They live a life of total confinement, day after day.”check out this woman: she has no credentials; does not have gainful employment; is she from the born wealthy elite? And that makes her an expert on how horses think and feel? Her "charity" is sitting on six mill in assets; have they purchased land for horses to run free on? Well, noooooo

The radical animals rights people are after all of us who have animals. This situation is still unfolding and well worth watching. I for one am not going "vegan" nor am I going to give up my leather boots and leather tack (altho I admit to owning some biothane and it is really easy to take care of).
