Can someone give me a ballpark estimate on how much it would cost to replace the 4 brake assemblies on my trailer. I called a few places but they won't give me a ballpark over the phone. I probably can tackle the job but it would take me longer than taking it in...not sure that is such a bad thing. Some of the other work I've had fixed didn't turn out so well.I have 96 Wrangler 2 Hs GN slant. 7000 GVWR, 6 lugs. At this point I'm not sure if I need drums or not.Thank you. K88I looked up the rule of thumb and it said 6 lugs = 5200 lbs.

Complete new name brand brake assemblies are available on EBay for ~$80-$90 /pr with free shipping. They are also available from many auto parts stores. Trailer dealers are sometimes more expensive with their parts.
The change out is relatively straight forward, removing the entire backing plate with their four attaching bolts, and all the included brake mechanicals. The wiring is spliced together and the drums are reinstalled. The brakes are sold by size, with some different ratings sharing common parts. Changing the entire unit instead of just the brake shoes and worn parts, saves time and ensures all the mechanical parts are there and new when the maintenance is performed.
If the drums are not scored, they can be resused with just a clean up. If they are scored, a brake shop can determine if they can be turned and reused.

Since there are so many choices on brakes I was trying to answer some of my question at least to decide if we want to work on the brakes or take it in. I was hoping someone would let know how much it would cost to have them done. The most common brakes are available in two sizes. 10 x 2.25" are used with a four bolt mounting on the lighter 3500# axles. The 12 x 2" are commonly used on most 5000# through the 7000#axles with a five bolt mounting.
It sounds like you could save almost $600 if you installed them yourself

I had mine priced 10 days ago on my way home on vacation to replace the complete brake assembly and he priced me at $400.00 for everything. After I got home, I priced a local place and it was closer to $600.+

I got some last year from e trailer dot com .complete assy. for 45.00 per wheel easy to install, now this is if your drums are ok drums or turning of drums would be additional
