I am new to the whole living quarters world. We recently bought a trailer with a little weekend package. it on;y has a roof AC/heat, and lights with a plug in on the outside of the trailer for electrical power. I am trying to learn what I need (ie generator, power hook up, battery, propane) to run what I have and what I might want to add in the future. I have read several things about roof AC units needing a lot of power to run. I was told by friend that I would need a 5000watt generator to run AC if I also may want to run anything else at same time? Also read something saying I will need 30amp plug in order to run ac? Does the heat take the same power requirement as the AC if it is all one unit? Thanks

A 3000 watt generator will work just find for what you are wanting.....
The heat strips in the roof a/c systems are worthless and even worse if you live in cold locations. All we ever use is a small portable electric heater in our 10' living quarters and it works great! Have never even turned the factory installed heater on.

We use a 2,000 watt Honda generator to run our space heater if we can't plug in. We hook them up in tandem (4,000 watt to run the air in either of our LQ trailers if no plug in is available. 3,000 should be enough to run most rooftop AC units unless you are way up in the mountains then 4,000 would be better.
