Looking to buy a Ford F150 ecoboost 6.5' bed 4x4. I have a featherlite 3 horse bumper pull. Anyone ever pulled with one of these? I'm sure it can 'pull' it down the road but can it handle it on big hills and in windy conditions?

We have a 2013 Ecoboost with max tow package. We have pulled an 18' aluminum gooseneck with 5 horses several times along with several loads of strs. Power wise, it handled absolutely great. We have a 1/2 mile 4% grade and it went up it just fine. The tranny shift points seemed to be perfect when on tow mode.

Have pulled with side and head winds and do get a little sway, but sure not enough to be concerned.

Did pull a S175 bobcat with it on a bumper pull. Was not as pleasant but still handled it just fine.

Mileage varied from 9 to 12 when pulling above. I bet you will be fine.

Good luck.

A friend of ours recently purchased a new Ford Ecoboost and an Adam aluminum 2H BP trailer. Until recently, she had been towing a Brenderup with a Land Rover. She likes her new rig, which has a tack room and much more space inside the trailer. She manages this combination on her own, and has had little difficulty since trading up. The truck has a good deal of power and easily handles this trailer.

I notice you said you have a "3" horse. I guess to me it depends on how much you intend to load down that trailer. Weight of your horses, their tack, hay, maybe a water caddy ?? etc etc, plus weight of the trailer. It can add up in a hurry.
I dont mean to sound insulting, but I guess I just can never understand why anyone that wants to tow, doesnt just by a TRUCK truck, and maybe a car or whatever for daily driving. Or considering the insurance and upkeep costs on 2 vehicles, just drive the truck daily. Surely gas difference cant be that much unless you have a really long commute, and that would negate the costs of having 2 vehicles I am sure. I have a Jeep Wrangler for work and easy parking in town and a 1 ton dually for towing the LQ, and just bought a 2 horse slant BP for local trips. Ended up playing the number game not on the truck, but on the BP hitch. I wonder how many hitch up to that receiver and never think twice about what the one they have is rated for?

What is a TRUCK truck...?  You ever driven or towed anything with a Ford F-150 Eco-Boost? A friend just bought one about a month ago, says it will pull circles around his 2006 F-150, 5.4.... Averages about 19 mpg as a daily driver, about 11 towing 8000#. Night and day handling between the two..

Just because a 1/2 ton truck has "Tons of power" does not mean that it is made to handle the weight of a heavy load.  The rear Diff and Axles are not made to bear the same load and or weights as a 3/4 or larger axle.  They are designed more like a car than a "truck"

I'm sorry Retento, like I stated, I dont mean it in an insulting way. But to me a TRUCK truck is something other than a 1/2 ton truck. If they keep beefing up 1/2 ton trucks, then when do they stop being half tons?  Take a 3 horse slant, add 3 big horses, tack, etc etc.  We went diesel in 2006. My last 3 gas trucks were a Ford SRW 1 ton with a 460, a Chevy 3/4 ton with a 454 and a Dodge 3/4 ton with a 360, which surprised the heck out of me towing as it wasnt a big block. I guess my point is I see people wanting these lighter weight trucks for MPG to tow with, and we all know how those tow weights can quickly stack up and then you need braking and control capability, specially in emergency driving situations. Having towed 37 years I probably have towed many things that were not ideal. That is not something I would choose to do everyday. A 2 horse trailer could/would limit the loading possibilities, but like I said, I keyed up on her saying 3 horse, and that often adds on a thousand plus more pounds to the total mix.

I agree that tons of power does not mean tons of control. But our 2013 is rated at 11,200 lbs or so of 5th wheel towing. And my experiences that I am relaying is that it handled our trailer (with 10,500 lbs) very well. Yes, it will NOT handle it as good as a 3/4 ton, 1 ton, or a semi. BUT it works better for our needs than those models. I would love to have another 4500 for the wife to commute, but the Ecoboost works best for us as daily driver and back up tow vehicle. I drive a F150 without the max tow nor the ecoboost as my daily driver. It is not even in the same family when compared to the wife's as far as power, handling, etc.
