I think I have narrowed down where the water is coming into the trailer dressing room.It seems to be coming in where the roof vent is since on the roof when I looked there appears to be some gap between the vent and the trailer roof. So here is my question. Do or are roof vents supposed to have a gasket on it where it would meet the roof of the trailer? It looks kind of like he used sheet metal screws to attach it to the roof. Or can I just caulk around it on top of the roof? I had taken the wet wood and dropped the black plastic that is between the insulation and the wood ceiling a few days ago and we have had rain since and there is wet area on the floor so I'm betting either it wasn't installed correctly or caulked so need some assistance in what I need to do. Thanks for the advice I need to get the ceiling down and back up in the next week.

The best repair is to remove the vent, clean the vent's flange and the roof's surface, apply a liberal coating of polyurethane caulking, and reinstall the vent. Wipe away the excess squeeze out and the repair will be long lasting. Just adding additional caulking to a leaking area may or may not work, and usually results in a short term fix.
