I have a 16' Featherlite gooseneck stock trailer with two 8' compartments. It does not have a tack room or dressing room. I usually only haul one horse. The neck does have a gate across it, and I do have spare equipment and emergency supplies stored up there but I was wondering if putting the horse into the rear compartment and using the front with the escape door as a tack room would be a bad thing to do? The divider is about a foot in front of where the wheel fenders end and I wasn't sure if loading the horse into the back would make the tail wag the dog, so to speak. I pull this with a 2001 F350 4 x 4 7.3l Power Stroke and generally don't know the trailer is back there.

You're good, Put him in the back and use the front for your stuff... You got enough weight up front to keep it from getting too light. Bumper pull may be a different story, chances are the horse would be too far behind the axles and no counter weight/leverage up front like the gooseneck trailer.

Thanks retento! I looked at the trailer when I went out to do evening chores a little while ago and if I tie his head up near the center gate most of his body will be over the axles. But your response makes me feel much better! :)

Thanks cajunmuleman! We bought this trailer as a runaround for our horses and for hauling our pigs. I do love it because it is so easy to get around as it is 7' shorter than our LQ 4 horse. The only thing I haven't liked about it was the lack of tack area or dressing room. Now, it will have a 8' dressing room!
