Looking at 3H gooseneck 1996 4Star and 2002 sooner.  Hubby feels as though a 1996 model (even a 4star) is too old - concerned about axles and hard parts going bad and that it will be 20 years old in 2016, etc.  I don't know much about Sooner other than it's pre-Universal ownership.  Any comments in general about 2002 Sooner workmanship and build quality?

What would you do?  Any feedback and thoughts on what to do would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim

I would choose which ever trailer is in the best condition. The age of either is not as important as how they have been maintained, and what is their present repair. A non LQ trailer is a very basic metal box, with few mechanical issues. Fasteners, hinges, latches, bearings, brakes, tires, lights and corrosion are about the only maintenance items. Most of these, if they are maintained, can last many trouble free years. All of the mechanical parts can be easily sourced and are not overly priced. If the axles are not bent, all of the bearings can easily be replaced and last decades. The brakes are less than ~$100 an axle.

The doors and windows should be especially checked for proper working and structural conditions. If they are damaged or missing, some of these older parts are difficult to replace.

Both of these brands will serve you well. Choose the one that most closely suits your needs, storage, stall sizes etc.
