Hello,I've been shopping for a 2H GN Slant Load with small LQ (6 or 8 foot SW) and I really wanted mangers for the storage. Ideally, I wanted a trailer that's 8 feet wide to allow extra space for the mangers - but I can't seem to find anything used in my price range - most are 7 feet wide. I'm very concerned about my horse having space (and resale of the trailer). My horse is not big - he's 15HH - and I'm sure he'd do okay -- but I may want to get a bigger horse one day, take a friend with a bigger horse, sell the trailer to someone with a bigger horse, etc etc.QUESTION -- at what size is a 7 foot width with mangers a problem for a horse to fit...?? 15.2HH, 16HH (I know it depends on breed and length, but I'm going for easiest guess here).Thanks.

Just a fast reply for now... You should be looking at inside hight not how wide. 7' 6" is the norm for bigger horses. Only worry about how wide the trailer is (8') to either have 3 horses side by side or a nice wide box stall... So with that said, do some searching for 7' 6" inside roof hight in the horse configuration you would like.

I would consider how long your horses are....I have an 8' wide w/ mangers, and a couple of mine had trouble stretching out to urinate. (Height was 7' 6"). For my horses, I can't go narrower than 8' if it has mangers, and would prefer no mangers at all, or at least not all of the stalls. Keep in mind that probably most of the mangers you encounter will be 18" deep, but some are 24" deep.

Our horses are both 15.2H and I personally would stick with 8'W if you want mangers. The trailer (GN) is 7' tall which has not proven to be a problem. The storage space provided under the mangers is very useful, especially when the trailer's primary use is for camping. Our 3H slant BP that does not have mangers is 6' 9" wide and I have repaired the rubber wall mat on the side wall where one horse likes to rub it with her left hind shoe. She wore right through the rubber down to metal, and this is in the last stall which has the most room. I can see wear to the rubber from our other horse as well.

I have a 7.5 wide 2H 4-Star with a 57" short wall weekender, with managers for sale on this site. My horses range in size from 14H to 15.1H. They have no problem with having enough room. I really think it depends on the angle of the stalls in the trailer. I have a friend with an 8 wide Elite 2H with LQ and her horse is really squeezed in there. It is about 15.2H. I prefer an 8 wide trailer, but when I was looking for a 2H GB I couldn't find a used one. I would check the length of the stalls in the trailer you are considering.

Thanks so much everyone. I'm doing MORE research and even with an 8 foot wide trailer and an 18" manger (standard smaller option), that leaves 6.5 feet for the horse. Trails West is saying they use a 5' offset so the stalls are longer but I'm waiting for clarification and exact measurements on how long exactly (it's a 7 foot trailer, so can't imagine it's okay). I'm almost thinking of ordering new 8 foot wide with one manger for my small guy (72" blanket) and one without for a larger guy that I might get the itch to buy in the future. That would cover it, I think - but new is OUCH expensive.....Trailer shopping is a full time job. Somebody should start a service.....!I'm grateful there are forums like this and folks willing to share their knowledge. THANK YOU...!!!!

I'd stick with an 8ft for future options with different horses. If you'd have a horse with a problem with backing out, it would help to have a wider trailer so you can turn them around. I have a 15h horse that had big trailering issues and is content traveling backwards. I ask him to go in and he turns around, I tie him, shut the divider and he rides backwards, sounds weird but works for us.

IMO, anything less than 8' wide with mangers is too small for a horse to be comfortable and able to balance, regardless of the angle of the dividers.
I don't like mangers anyway and have a 3H 7'6" wide trailer (no mangers). The front two horses have plenty of room and the 3rd stall is huge since the last horse can stick his butt into that opening next to the back tack. My foxtrotter is over 16H, 1200 lbs and he has lots of room.
We camp with two horses and use the first stall for gear. Mangers would be nice for storage but we did not want an 8' wide trailer. Every 8 wide trailer we looked at had less stall space than 7'6" without mangers.
Another consideration is the LQ - 7' is very narrow for a LQ and 7' height may be OK for the horses but over your bed it will be close. Can't sit up and hard to change sheets or make the bed. I like to sit up in bed and watch TV or read.
Can you tell I love my trailer? It is a 3H slant with an 8' LQ, 7'6" tall and 7'6" wide. Very roomy and comfortable for horses and people.

I would suggest that you get the 8 foot wide trailer more room in the horse area and most important additional room in the LQ area. Have had both the seven six and eight ft. wide and the eight ft. is MUCH nicer to "live" in. As far as height, you can have the gooseneck dropped 2 inches and have the trailer blocked 2 inches this provides additional room in the bed area.
