Have a 2003 Cherokee currently installing living quarters, would like to install linoleum flooring, floor is covered in carpet now.  What is the "BEST" way to install the linoleum flooring properly that will last me the longest.

 ? remove the old carpet

  Please advise

If you will remove the carpet, put down a vapor barrier (plastic), solid insulation like the pink or blue panels, then free floating plywood, 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch depending on what your current doorway is like, then put your flooring on top of that, you should get some pretty good results. Some will suggest that you attach the plywood to the floor with some screws, but I'm not sure it is a requirement if you snug it in there pretty good, but leave about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch for expansion around the edges.

I did what BJ mentioned above last fall.  Layed down a vapor barrier then anchored 2x2's around the edges, predrilling and using SS screws into the bottom of the wall frame.  Then layed in 2x2's (sleepers), 12" on center and secured them to the edge pieces.  I put in 1" rigid blue insulation from Lowes, then put 3/8" plywood down, built my cabinet base and dropwall bench seating on top of that.  As for the linoleum, I used a "floating" style (no glue-secured by floor moulding) so it would be easy to replace if needed.
