Not exactly a horse topic, but want to share a very interesting documentary I watched via youtube last evening. It's called "The Story of the Weeping Camel". It is rather long, but worth viewing because of the ending. I won't give it away, but the story is about a camel that refuses her newborn colt and how the Mongolians seek a solution. I won't divulge anymore about it.

One of the most interesting experiences I ever had in the mountains was when we met a camel. Of course my horses wanted nothing to do with it.
Also the old ranch hand. he stated " I'm so glad I saw that camel. if I hadn't I'd been wondering all summer what creature was creeping around these mountains leaving those strange foot prints"

Glad others find camels interesting. The Mongolians ride them as we do our horses. But the way they get the mother camel to accept her colt is something one would think came from a fairy tale. I still won't divulge exactly how they do it, but what I also found so interesting is that the "ceremony" actually causes the mother camel to literally weep.
I know of two instances of mares refusing their foals, and now wonder if we can learn something from this ritual.

I love camels and interacting with/riding them. In Australia, you can just go catch a wild one, tame it and keep it. I always thought that an attractive thing to do.

The camels that were part of this herd seemed amazingly docile. Even the mother who refused her colt was never overly aggressive towards the little one. She just turned away when the baby tried to nurse. I am totally unfamiliar with camels although I did ride one once at a tourist trap out in AZ years ago.
