I decided to remove the old carpet from the small dressing room on my 1995 aluminum Sooner. The carpet came up easily enough, but, man o man, what it left behind- the old glue adhered to the floor plus part of the black carpet backing! I plan on putting down rubber matting cut to fit.Should I just forget about it and put the mats down over this (maybe it might prevent sliding around!) or be the usual uptight person that I am and try to remove this stuff? If so,any suggestions as to what to use that won't land me in the hospital on a vent? (alcohol,GooGone, lacquer thinner, etc?)

I'm guessing the carpet didn't come up even. If you go to a diy store in the flooring section they have a large floor scraper. Some have slide hammer to help remove stubborn flooring. The chemicals you mentioned will do little to help the removal.

Is the floor wood or metal? That might make the decision.
Assuming you are not glueing the rubber down, so I'd just leave the residue, put the mat in place, and if it lays nice and smooth and flat, I'd call it good

It is aluminum like the rest of the trailer.
I think you're right.removing all of that backing residue and old glue would be one more long and hard chore, and, for what? the flooring underneath won't be seen, and,I doubt it will hurt it since it was glued down all these years anyway.think I'll just get a truck bed mat and cut to fit, and, call it good and be glad I don't have that nasty carpet down any longer!

If you really wanted to remove it so as to have nice clean surface, I would try using a heat gun and plastic scrapper. Heat should help disovle old glue and make scapping easier. I would not use metal scrapper on aluminum.

Great idea to just put down floor mats in your dressing room! Great insulator and easy to clean and who cares if you spill something on it. Hmmmm will sure consider that for mine. Mine currently has the indoor/outdoor carpet glued to the floor. Its starting to look worn and.....we share it with 3 dogs.

THis has been down since the trailer was made in '95.I noticed that the carpet near the door always seemed damp and there was a definate odor to it (I think dogs HAD been in it at one time.) The portion of the door seal at the bottom of the dressing room door is coming off, plus, when we took the carpet out,one of the drain holes in the floor is in the left hand corner near the door.No wonder!
There's no way it can stay dry if you are traveling down the road in a rain.Road spray is bound to be carried up through those drain holes and being as the door stays closed on it and the window shut,it never really dries out.
I'm glad it's gone whether or not we tackle the glue on the floor!

When I took up the indoor/outdoor in mine it did the same thing. I just cut plywood and laid over the top of it, then laid the vinyl on top of that. Matter of fact, I just finished putting another floor in. I took out the carpet 10 or so years ago and put in the new floor. I was recently given a leftover piece of vinyl from the installation of a floor I helped a friend do, and put that in yesterday.
