Not sure about the exact model # but the Duravis were my OE and I got about 42k out of them (mostly highway, non hauling, but did a lot of local hauling).
A friend of mine has some Michelin LXT load E tires in my size that he just took off his Dodge to get a bigger tire "look" - and is offering to sell them to me, they are a load range E also and have about 7k miles on them.... Wondering if they would be a good option now too thanks to your rec! :)
Never bought used tires before.... And had never planned on it till he just emailed me....

My Dodge came with LTX's as standard when it was new. The tires were very long lasting as far as mileage goes, and traction was good. In fact i am planning to replace them soon, as I have about 45,000 on them. All highway miles, but almost always have one of the trailers hooked to it. One trailer is a 2 horse alum, Classic Slant with front tack, and the other is our 4 horse, w/small liv qtrs, Trails West, Sierra Classic.

Most of todays "LT" truck tires are good for 106 mph, I would imagine that your Duramax maximum speed is about 96 mph.... Those used tires off the Dodge should work just fine. How much $$$.$$ is he asking for them?? $100.00 each maybe...!!

My OE tires are "R" speed rating.
Not sure about the price, waiting to hear, though I imagine he is scurrying around the internet (trying to figure out what to ask for them) just like I am at the moment (trying to find out what is a good price), LOL :)

A couple of years ago, I needed tires and the Ford dealer was selling lots of trucks and people all wanted bigger tires and fancy wheels, So he had a stack of take off OEM tires. Most didn't have more than the 6-7 miles that a new truck incures as it's shipped. The dealer offered me the tires for $100 each. Regardles of if I had them mounted on my rims or left them on the OEM rims. $400 for a set of tires was considerable cheaper than buying new tires from the tire dealers at $900-$1100.
Now I would not buy used tires with 20,000 miles on the,, But I had no problem with take off tires with almost no mileage.

If they are at least a third off a new price, they might be worth your time. You will have to pay extra to have them mounted and balanced, and most mileage / road hazzard warranties are not transferable. You will probably be buying them "as is". You will have to decide if the savings is worth giving up the free extras often included with a new purchase. (mounting, balancing, valve stems, free rotation, flat services etc.)
Make sure you can return the tires, if any damage is found on the inside of the cords / carcasses, when they are inspected before mounting. Many times a tire's cord damage will not be revealed on the exterior surface of the tire, but is easily identified with an interior inspection. The bead areas should also be checked for integrity, as they will have been subjected to a few tire changing machines by the time you obtain them. A novice operator of these machines can ruin a tire in short order.

Even though the Michelins are more money, They have a better warranty.
In my size LT275/65r20 they are the ONLY 10 ply E rated tire with a Tread Life warranty. If I don't get 60,000 miles, They pro-rate the tread life and discount the new tires.
On my Ford Superduties, Doing the towing and work that I do, I average about 30,000 miles per set of tires. And it doesn't matter what brand of tires I've bought. So the Michelins are usually giving me 1/2 of the new tire price because of the tread wear warranty.

I am going to go ahead and do the used tires.
My tire guy said he will thoroughly inspect them, and the seller has agreed to hang out while the tires are inspected - and if they are good, I will buy.
Really appreciate you folks weighing in on this thread, wouldn't have been brave enough to try this without you!
