My trailer has electric brakes with an emergency switch activated by a steel cable that you connect to the bumper of the towing vehicle.  Can the switch be tested by pulling the attached steel cable and then reset or does it "break" and have to be replaced once used?

Welcome to the forum ... Unless the pull tab is broken, you should be able to pull the cable to test the E-brake system.  (pull it straight out, pulling at an angle might break it)  Push the tab back in when you're done.

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to pull it to test and then have to replace the switch.

I you add some dielectric grease to the tab when it is reinserted, the contacts won't corrode and the system will maintain its effectivity.
