I am looking for some advice on a couple of CM horse trailers. I like both the Dakota ES and the Charger models. The Dakota ES has a width of 6' is 14' long. The Charger has a width of 6'8" and is 15' long. Both models have a 6'6" height with tack rooms in the front. The only major difference that I can tell right off besides the width is that one has a v-nose front and the other is round. As of right now I only have one horse and he's exactly 15 hands. How do I know which width would be better? I would prefer to go with the Dakota ES because it quite a bit cheaper. If you know anything about or own a CM 2 horse slant load, please let me know what your thoughts are regarding this or anything else I should be aware of before I buy. Thank you!

In regards to your question between the Charger and the Dakota ES models. Hopefully I can explain a couple other differences between the two. I am a CM Dealer in Texas and carry both styles. The Charger will have upgrades on it like have Gavanneal Side Panels which will help protect the steel material and give you a longer lasting trailer, the charger will also have radial tires on them vs bias ply tires, the charger will have brakes on both axles vs on one axle (unless they upgraded it), Your coupler will be a 2 5/16" vs 2". These additions plus the V-Nose feature will be the differences you will notice on the two trailers. So there are a few more features that are different on the Charger than the Dakota. Both trailers are very popular for CM, the Charger just allows you to have a little more long lasting trailer with the upgraded gavanneal steel, tire and brake difference, ect. I hope this helps, please let me know if I can help answer any other questions for you.

Thanks for your response. I stopped by my local CM dealer here in AR today. I really do like the Charger model, but to me the front slant space looks really narrow on the trailer I looked at. Are these trailers built to a spec or are they all a little different? My horse is not what I would consider to be really wide, but he is a little on the chubby side.

These trailers are built standard (I checked with the CM rep to see if they would add footage in the first horse stall but they said that they can not). The first stall usually does look very narrow compared especially to the 2nd stall since these trailers are all open in the back with no rear tack and the 6'8 wide is a wider bumper pull compared to most. You could always haul your horse in the back stall if you feel like he is too cramped. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.
