If I have a new trailer that is wired for cable and has an external cable jack, what, if any modifications would I need to do in order to plug into that jack from a satellite dish (dish network)?

As long as it is just a straight coax connector that isn't run through a splitter or booster it will work fine. It has to be a straight shot right to the dish network box. I run a Vuqube with dishnetwork and just have a box with a lid that flips open with the coax connector. That runs straight into the coax that is hooked to the box. Good luck.
