ok having trouble with my brakes not working my truck has a 7 point plug on bumper for my smaller trailer and a 6 point in the bed for the gooseneck now my wife was told that my brakes were not working because the 6 point is wired off the 7 point and the 7 point plug is already grounded and this guy told her that the trailer is being grounded on the gooseneck ball on the truck and thats what is causing my brakes to not work all my lights work just no brakes is this true cause why would it have a ground wire in the 6 point plug if it werent needed can someone help me out here

You should have a similar 7 pin socket at all your plug's hook up points, with compatable wiring. If the hitch's ball is lubricated, depending upon its conductivity for a proper ground is a hit or miss proposition. The ground wire should be in place between your trailer and truck, for correct circuit opperations.
A correctly wired receptacle will alleviate many of your electrical issues.

ok heres what i've got goin on now we hooked up the trailer to my friends chevy 6 pole into 7 pole adapter turned the lights on and had lights but locked up the brakes as soon as the lights were turned on swapped a few wires around got brakes to work like normal but i have no running lights change them around again get lights no brakes so left it with having brakes and no lights so heres my question will the truck wiring be different from ford to chevy as soon as i hooked up to my ford the brakes lock up and thats goin from 6 pole to 6 pole i dont want to have to be changing wires around to haul with two different trucks

Get rid of that adapter, match all the male and female plugs the same on all the vehicles. Everything I have has the 7 way plug. Two trucks and 6 trailers and they all work without any problems.
