We have a 2004 Ford F250 SuperCrew 5.4L Triton 4X4 short bed with towing package. The owner's manual is seriously confusing, but from several websites (including Ford's) I *think* that it will tow up to 13,900 (conventional--does that mean bumper pull?) and 14,200 (fifth wheel--gooseneck?).
Anybody out there have a similar Ford? What kind of trailer do you pull?
We were looking at aluminum 3 horse bumper pulls (like the Shadow Pro Series), but we found a 2003 Exiss with small living quarters. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller on the weight of the trailer but comparing it to someone's that I saw today, I'm guessing that it's around 9500-10000 pounds, so it seems like this trailer would put us at the upper end of our towing capacity.

Just to clarify, my guess on the weight is with the trailer loaded. ;) Hopefully the seller will respond quickly with empty trailer weight so that I can figure out for sure if this trailer is an option for us.

I was looking at page 14 of that brochure. That chart must represent maximums.
Our truck has the 4.10 axle ration, so I guess we can tow up to 8400 pounds. I'm a little bummed, because I really love the interior of the living quarters of the trailer I found and I think it's going to be too heavy for our truck. It's an Exiss XT300 3 horse, which from what I've been able to find online weighs around 4,800 for a trailer without the living quarters conversion. I'm still waiting to hear back from the seller as to the weight of that specific trailer, but it's not looking good.

Well, I heard from the seller...she already sold the trailer, but she says that it weighed 4920.
So, we COULD pull that with our Ford. We'd be pushing the limit of the truck's towing capacity if we take all 3 horses and gear, though--3 horses would mean we could only carry about 500 pounds of tack/water/hay/gear.
Is that doable? Or do we need to just forget the idea of a GN with weekender?

Balaki - even though you have a 3/4 ton truck, your towing capacity is actually LESS than my 1/2 ton with the same engine but only the extended cab (NOT crew cab). So our wheel base length is the same, I have a longer bed than you and less truck weight.
4 wheel drive adds weight to the tow vehicle, as do the extra doors of the crew cabs. The total length of your wheelbase also affects how much you can tow, as do the size of your tires. Believe it or not, smaller wheels - more towing capacity. Of course, there's also more stress on the wheels / studs / tires... so there's that compromise to be considered. More wheel studs are safer as are larger brakes... but with the trailer having brakes and emergency braking... I don't worry TOO much about that. I don't have too many ginormous hills where I haul. (I would never use this configuration out west .. and would be worried through the Appalachians.)
What ticks me off with these trucks is that you can haul MORE with a weight distribution hitch / bumper pull, then with a 5th wheel or GN!! (and the fact that they sell them with little piss-ant passenger tires)
I have a 5000 pound galvanized steel 3H with 4' short wall GN. I typically haul 1 horse, sometimes 2. I added about 800 pounds with insulation and paneling, and mattress, etc. etc. in DR area. My F150, 4x4, 5.4 litre with... can't remember... 3.75? rear end (not the 4.10) does very well hauling 9500 pounds in 5th wheel configuration and some stuff in the truck. I have a 48 gallon water tank where most people have a rear tack. Having that BEHIND the axle keeps that weight off the tongue / payload - which is what limits the towing capacity of the trucks.
I put my hay, saddle, and that sort of stuff in the front stall; horse in the middle - or middle and back stall. Hope this helps.

When I'm only hauling 1 horse and full water tank - even with 3 or 4 bales of hay and 2 ice chests, I can still accelerate from 55 mph to a higher speed. But again, I'm not hauling in big mountains ... some long grades sometimes, but that's all.
