I have been looking at getting a new horse trailer with a larger living qtrs with a slide out, I looked at a cimarron yesterday and I know nothing about them other than what I have researched on the internet on how they were built, need some pros and cons on them and more so the fiberglasss roof, and would like pros and cons on the platinum horse trailer also. I have  a Featherlite and that is the only name brand trailer I have ever bought so I know their a lot of you that have owner these other brands and sure could use your input and help.

Thank you

Blue

The Platinum would be my dream trailer. I have looked at these at the Horse Expo every year and just really like them. Every thing about them looks well built.

I have also looked at the Platinum and from what I have seen they are well built,  just don't care for the floor the way they do it, and the dealer here in TX who I am working with is very slow and not in half the time when you call and leave a meg for a call back may take 2 or more day before you hear back from them. and that is the only reason I did not buy one in 2007 and bought another Featherlite

I bought a 2011 Platinum-Outlaw, I have a metal fabrication shop so when I was shopping trailers I spent most of my time UNDER the trailer while my wife was inside.     I was and am very impressed with the quality of build in the Platinum.  I only have about 15,000 miles on it so far and about 100 nights.   No problems with anything.

Bought a Cimarron over the Platinum a few years ago. Reason was the floor, IMO, on the Cimarron was stronger due to interlocking members. The Platinum was sheet over I beems. Had a Conversion Dealer tell me that Platinum floors, in their opinion, oil canned and sagged more were the horses stand which allowed collection of fluids and possible corrision.

Also, the roof in Cimarron was another positive. Have had several Hart trailers with the fiber roof and really liked them. No hail or horse damage that one could get with a sheet roof.

The other thing is that our Cimarron is grey--I just like something a little different than everyone else. The Platinums all look the same IMO.

Other than that, I think they are both top of the line trailers. Priced the same, I would get the Cimarron, but it wouldn't take much price difference to change my mind.

Good luck!

You know, this is an interesting thread. If it is true that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then we should look at the history of each company.

It is no secret that Cimarron started as the CM Norstar, which was a direct product from a person who left Hart to go copy the product, as close as he could.

Platinum started the same way, with folk who departed Elite to copy the product as well as possible.

So maybe it could be wise to look higher up the food chain at the products that everyone felt were worth copying in the first place?? Just my question for the day.

Very good point----We tried to go stay with Hart, but the same trailer was ~8k higher is why we went with Cimarron. I think that was a dealer deal-Hart dealer was really small, but the Cimarron dealer was one of the nation's largest trailer dealers-??

Yes you have a good point and I also know they stemed off of those makers, but you also have to look at is their any dealers in your area and the service point, I for one will not drive 500 miles to have my trailer service if something goes wrong, and in my area we have those trailers, featherlite , sundowner, 4star and a few of the lower line trailers . I am 64 yrs old and have never owned anything but a Featherlite and have always been pleased with them and never had any thing go wrong with my trailers I have owned, but I like these other trailers I have looked at and the way they are put together as much as I like the featherlite and they were horse friendley in the horse part, don't know how they ride back their because the dealer didn't hook one up so I could see, but before I buy one I will ride in the back. Also thank you all for your input on these trailers as it does help.

Or maybe some of the people that left saw the writing on the wall?I have a friend that owns a 2000 model 4-Star 28' stock/combo...maybe 500k miles on it. Could not have been happier...just wanted something bigger.

Found a 2006 4-Star, 36' stock/combo with full LQ....the 2006 is not near the build quality of the 2000.

I have owned and pulled a couple of Harts. Really liked them. I now have a Cimarron- I actually like it a little better than the Harts I had. I would buy either of those brands again with no reservation. And I do pull and use my trailers quite a bit. Hope that helps.

Regarding the floor in a Platinum. I purchased a used 02 about 5 years ago. When I looked at the trailer it was literally swimming in the horse compartment. I was quite concerned about the condition of the floor. I got it home, pulled the mats, and pressure washed it out. Much to my surprise, there was absolutely no pitting or chalking on the floor, looked brand new. Talked to Platinum later at a show and they used some sort of marine grade salt water resistant super duper good stuff on the floor. That's the reason they use sheeting is because that's how they can get that particular alloy. Anyway if it's still the same stuff it's pretty good. I liked the trailer for the most part, wouldn't be afraid to buy another one.

Yes they still use the same floor, also I went to look the Cimarron again and looked at one that did not have the L/Q put in yet and in the part where the L/Q goes the inside roof was sweating so bad all over and their was mildew every where, the dealer told me it was change in weather, I have never had a roof sweat inside , is this normal on a fiberglass roof, because if it is, that is not good.  And I live on the Gulf Coast.

After a very, very long search looking at trailers and a lot of research, including the archives of this website going back years,  I bought a  2008 Cimarron Norstar 3H LQ with an 8 ft SW last fall.

I am 100% satisfied with the trailer and have hauled extensively since I got it.  I don't have one complaint.

And I am a COMPLAINER!!

Check with other Platinum dealers to find out who's willing to work with you and be competitive on price. I was never a fan of flat roof trailers as I've seen too many leaks.
