Hello,I REALLY need some help. I am looking at 2012 F150 with max tow package (11300 lbs) and a 5.5 bed. Can I tow a 2horse gooseneck trailer with it? I am hearing so many different opinions. If I can do it safely with the addition of a hitch "extender" I will but some people are saying its impossible or dangerous. Please help. I have not purchased a 2horse gooseneck yet but if you have any suggestions that would work with this vehicle please let me know. Thanks so much!

I would think the larger problem would be banging the cab of the truck with the trailer on tight turns and backing requiring a tight angle. If the trailer has a wedge nose, perhaps not as bad of a problem, but still something to be careful about. Most hitch extenders only add 6" any more then that can effect the weight abilities of the hitch and balance on the trucks bed. Good luck finding the right truck and trailer for you.

I have been towing a 2+1 gooseneck with a 2001 F-150 crewcab 5.5 bed for 11 years and never had a problem. I have an extension on the coupler and the trailer has a tapered nose. 200,000 miles all over the Eastern US and (knock on wood) nothing worse than a flat tire or two.

I don't tow with a Ford but do have a 1/2 ton with a shorter bed (6').  I took a measurement from the center of the wheel wells and 3-4 inches forward (B&W mounting recommendations - at least on my truck) to the back window.  When visiting dealers, I had someone stand at the GN receiver and walked that measurements circumference to see if I would hit the window anywhere.

I think like someone said above, you're going to need an extender because on my 6', it was generally 4-5" clearance at the jacknife position.

Hi Yankee, thanks so much for getting back to me. The truck I am looking at is on the lot, gorgeous truck. I am just so nervous about the gooseneck. Someone told me Curtis makes an extender that will make this pairing possible. I can get another truck with the 6.5 bed but it won't fit in the garage then lol....problems!

This is why I choose the F150 extended cab rather than the crew cab. I still get 4 doors and 5 or 6 passengers (I do a bench in the front, so I get 6) - but it's the "suicide" doors not the regular ones. It gives me a 6.75' bed and the greatest towing capacity of a 6-passenger 1/2 ton. (I don't do people when towing.) Also - go for smaller wheels rather than larger ... it also increases your towing capacity. : )

Most trailers now have the coupler at the very front of the nose of the trailer. If you're going to stick with the crew cab Ford, Look for a tapered front GN - but keep in mind that the taper takes away from bed space in the gooseneck area.
Good Luck.

Also, does anyone know anything about Double D trailers? I like the fact they can customize them as far as height/length/components. Has anyone had one built by them?
