I am in the market for a 2000 - 2003 Featherlite 8487 or Exiss 412 with 12 foot LQ. It seems that very few if any have the A/C ducted in the ceiling. Was this something that would have been specal order? I am just trying to figure out if I should hold out and keep looking for a trailer with it or if it is really rare.

When were shopping for a new LQ, a ducted AC was on our list. After talking to some knowledgeable owners and sales people, we were led to believe the ducting was not necessary. In addition to the initial expense, and depending on the installation, the duct work can lower your ceiling heights.
We ended up purchasing a used trailer with a 13' LQ. It does not have ducted air, and we have not noticed any detriments whilst occupying the living space. Our 4' weekender has no need, for even the consideration of having the AC ducted.
It's late in the season, but I would try to find some LQ owners and directly ask them for their input. Here at HTW you should get views for and against. BOL

In the year range you mentioned, it was not a typical option on units that size. As Gard states, it cuts headroom. So unless the trailer is 7'6"t, you'll seldom see ducting. And the 7'6" trend hadn't really started then.

I have a 2003 Hart with ducted air. It does take some head room but it hasn't been a problem for me. It would be nice to have a little more room over the bed but it's not that big a deal. I really like it, especially in the bathroom if you have to have the door shut.

Our new trailer is 7ft. 4" tall but the nose is dropped 4" so there is plenty of head room in the bed area. Trail Boss did the LQ and we visited them when our trailer was being finished. The duct work they were using was about 4" wide and about 1" high. Don't know if thats what others would use.

I do prefer ducted ac over non ducted. My LQ is ducted but my weekender in not. Taking showers in a unducted bathroom in the summer is rough. We learned a few years back on a non ducted trailer, to pack a extra tension rod and shower curtain. We would place it about 4-6" down from the top of the bathroom door frame so cool air could blow over the top of it. If the door was shut, it was stifling with no A/C getting in!

I have had both and much recommend the ducted AC. My reasoning is it is on a thermostat like a home AC so doesn't blow all the time. I get tired of the noise of the fan as well as the air blowing all the time. BUT either is acceptable.

My Platinum-Outlaw has ducted air. I would NOT have it any other way. Nice even temps, air reaches all corners and the thermostat regulates the conditioner much better than just haveing it on most all the time.
