I have a new Sundowner 2H trailer with aluminum flooring. What is the best way to take care of it to last a long time? Thanks.

The main thing is to periodically pull the mats and wash and scrub any urine from under the mats that is on the floor.  Let the floor dry well before reinstalling the floor mats.

If you haven't used your trailer yet, you can have your dealer spray the floor with a good compatible undercoating material.  This will keep urine from getting to the aluminum and starting to work on it.  I would check with your Sundowner dealer first though to make sure you won't void any warranty by doing this.

My new 727 Sunlite is at a WERM distributor now getting a new seamless rubber floor to eliminate rubber mats, We Eliminate Rubber Mats (WERM). Even if you undercoat the floor you will have to remove the mats to wash the floor. Also, undercoating can crack and urine will run under it. I have researched this issue in all directions. This is my second new trailer and I do not want to deal with mats again. Check WERM flooring website. Problem is that there aren't very many dealers, particulary in the East. 4Star installs WERM flooring in all of their trailers and it is an option on many higher end trailers at dealers. Cost for me is $14/square foot.

Yes remove mats periodically, depending on how much it is used and spray out. In between removing mats, spraying the inside of the horse area out is also beneficial as it will dillute any urine that has seeped under the mats.

I agree.....an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I had a Linex dealer out in OK spray my new Exiss trailer only to learn that the job had been botched. So I then took it to a St. Louis Linex dealer who removed the mess, acid washed the floor and then properly prepared and sprayed my floor the correct way. So be sure you do the homework and deal with a person who knows what they're doing.

My friend's Sundowner's floor got pitted, and it had to be resprayed. I was fortunate in that my trailer was newer. Upkeep is so important. But doing the homework is worth the trouble and can save you not only money but also headache in the longrun. Good luck!

What kind of soap would you use to wash the floors beside just water? OUr old trailer we put Werm flooring in, the trailer we have now doesn't. We sure wish it did, pulling mats out and putting them back in is the pits.

Do as CrowleysRidgeGirl says and read Gard's instructions on lining the floor yourself. I did it in my new-to-me Hart and I am glad I did it. The hardest part was just getting started.. making up your mind to do it and go for it. I have no real skills of any type and I did my trailer myself. My non-horsey husband told me the entire time that I didn't know what I was doing and that I was going to mess it up, and I didn't need to be messing with chemicals, etc,etc,etc....... I ignored him and kept on going..............My floor looks great................
