Hello Ya'll,This will be our first camping trip with the horses. We are looking for a place in Southern Colorado or Northern New Mexico, has anyone camped in either place? We just want to get away and have a good time in the forest! Thanks in advance!Logan

Try Sarahs website at

fourcornerstrails.com

She lives near Durango and they have a lot of discussion about trails in SW Colorado

Your post is from a couple months ago, so you may have already settled on a place in NM. We love Jack's Creek in the Pecos Ntl Forest. It is close to Santa Fe, and has wonderful mountain riding. There are pens, vault toilets and water available, but not at the sites. No electricity or dump station.

Transfer Campground outside Mancos is great riding, too. There is limited parking, however and no amenities except for a few big corrals.

Look at the Purgatory State Park.  They have equestrian trails, and equestrian specific camp sites... PLUS, you can call ahead and reserve them so you know you will have a spot when you get there.  It is about 35 Miles NW of Trinidad.
