Hello everyone! My father and I have a disagreement about what color to paint an old 2 horse trailer that is getting fixed up for the sole purpose of selling. Dad has YELLOW paint left over from a corvette he was refurbishing. Dad thinks that painting my trailer YELLOW will make it easier to sell. I however feel that a neutral like white, tan or grey is MUCH better of a choice. What are your opinions / suggestions?

What year Corvette? My guess if your dad is refurbishing the Corvette, the paint job will be quality. If it is the bright sunshine yellow I've seen on Corvettes', I would stay away from it. It seems that the majority of us "horse people" are rather conservitive and like the bland colors like tan, lt. brown, gray, and white. Even the red and bue one are not the real "pick me up" red or bright blue. You said you are fixing it up for resale, so I would paint it a color that will appeal to the biggest market share.

If you paint your trailer with a "Corvette Competition Yellow" paint colour, you will end up with a very bright, giant banana. Would you purchase a trailer looking like that? Would your horses even want to ride in it? It's a great colour for cars, trailers not so much.
It will take many gallons to paint the trailer. How much do you have left over?

Yellow no, I'd paint it white or any of your colors. I've had two trailers I had repainted and painted both white and didn't have any problems selling. White paint is cheaper too. One thing to consider too is have you ever seen a yellow horse trailer?

I would vote NO for yellow, and also white. A steel trailer painted white may bleed some rust from crevices before you can even get it sold. Stick with a pewter, dark tan, or greys. I have seen white trailers delivered from the factory that had rust streaks "pinstriped" down the sides from moisture blowing out of tube steel uprights or crevices.

Thanks everyone for your posts!
Now I have some good opinions to show my father. Will let him down gently because he is really helping me out by offering his time, especially since my husband wont have any time due to his current work schedule. Have to buy Dad a case of beer!
I agree with Yellow being a weird choice for horse trailers and no I have never seen a yellow one. Seen green, and pink, but would not choose those colors either :)
Told Dad as a compromise he could paint a stripe or something on the back to help with visibility, but by no means the entire thing. Cause yes who ever purchases it would look like they were towing a giant banana!

Neighbor bought an old beat up 2H bumper pull, He took it over to Job Corps and had them paint it Red.
He used it for a year and put it on the corner in town with for sale sign and it was sold in a couple of days. So I don't see the red as being a big negative. But then again, I like red.

I traded for a yellow 2H bumper pull with a red stripe a few years ago. Tried to sell it for over a year, before a neighbor up the road, getting along in years, finally bought it. He was the first person who didn't give a care what color it was. He thought it might be safer....., and he definitely liked the cheaper.

Hey I actually like to yellow and white trailer but I still wouldn't do all yellow. Still haven't seen a yellow one myself. It is true about the white showing more rust and black streaks. The ones I painted I wasn't keeping long term but had a good quality paint job on them. If I was considering keeping a trailer for a long time, the gray or tan would be better for not showing rust or streaks. I looked at it that white matches anything and considered the price of paint and I was selling the trailer.

So you are from California? I was living in that area 2 years ago. I think you can go on and find other trailer sellers before you should decide on what color you should paint. My brother taught me that lesson when I wanted to paint my trailer color violet but I don't know how to. What my brother did was he showed me his style by searching some California auto repair shops and he spied on them to know how to paint and what color to use in painting a trailer. I learned a lot from it and I was very happy that I was able to paint my trailer.
