I bought a 97 Ford F250 and it has a brake controller already installed.... it is not working. Even when you just hit the brakes no red light comes on or anything. I have looked at it and the controller is hard wired into the truck. Any ideas what might be wrong? Could it be a fuse? Everything else on the truck is working, including the trailer lights. The trailer brakes work fine on other trucks... so it is the controller. So any ideas on what to do or check? If it is a fuse... which one? There are fuses in two different spots... under the steering wheel and then under the hood. Any ideas?

Pull the black wire going to the controller. Check with a multimeter to determine if you have 12V available. If you don't, it's probably a fuse.
Most are 30A maxies and can be checked in place using your meter across the two top pins of each fuse. Look in the main power distribution box (the one with the relays) in the #21 position. This should be in the second position from the front on the inboard strip.
