Oops, done that one before.
I have plans to go to the Big Creek Trail Ride in early May. I had a car accident in November and I'm just getting back into riding and know I can probably only ride a couple of hours a day. I commited to going with friends and didn't want to cancel on them and I really want to go since it's my first time there and I've heard good things about them.
I've had a few times when I thought it would have been nice to have a TV when on vacation when the bad weather sets in and no riding. I normally don't watch TV while camping but know this year I'll probably be more of a camp rat. I was considering purchasing a TV/DVR combo what would be my TV in the bedroom when my 24 year old console TV dies.
I've noticed some 12 volt tv/combos and wondered if they could run on regular electricity with a converted plug in and if they run your battery down. I have a generator but don't usually take it with me unless it's a holiday weekend with no electricity. Most of my vacations have electricity so I guess I wouldn't have much of a need for a 12 Volt but was curious anyway to what other have experienced.

We had a Sears that would run on 12v or A/C. It worked ok near stations, but even when plugged into the roof antenna, suffered with poor reception. We now use an A/C powered flat screen and a DVD/CD player. My wife and many of our friends also have portable DVD players that they enjoy with their mobility, and ability to be used almost anywhere they want. We're not big time watchers of TV while camping/showing, so satellite TV isn't on our wish list.
Any DC appliance will eventually run your battery down.

I just bought a flat screen with built in DVD player for my LQ that runs on 110 or 12v. I am super excited, can't wait for my hubby to install it. When weather is bad it will be nice to watch a movie to kill time..

We had one but drained the batteries very fast, usually before a 2 hour movie was complete. Not worth the trouble, just get a good book if you don't have access to elec.

We installed a 12 volt TV/DVD combo last winter in a living quarters re-do, and used it last summer & fall without draining the battery. The 15.6" flat-screen model is only $239 at roadtrucker.com, comes with the AC & DC adapters. (http://www.roadtrucker.com/electronics4.htm#15.6_LCD_TV_DVD_Combo_Widescreen_AC/DC) Then go to monoprice.com and order the mounting hardware for a much cheaper price than you can buy it at WalMart or an electronics store.

I mounted a automotive TV ( like people put in for kids in the back seat) in the bed area of our LQ it works great 13" screen folds up into ceiling when we are not watching a movie, it is nice if the weather gets bad or you finish your book.
Anyone use a 12 volt TV?
