For all of you DIYers, if you had to do it again, what would you put on your trailer walls? What's the best value for your money? What turned out the best and what had the easiest upkeep?

I have a combination of bead board paneling and ultra suede with what looks like engraving. This is the 3rd redo, and I am basically happy with it. The first 2 were wallpaper and it just doesn't last in a trailer that isn't climate controlled all the time. The last time I got luan plywood, contact cemented the suede to it and it is holding up well. If I were to redo it again, I would use a lighter color suede, but this is all they had.

when you put the fabric on the luan, did you apply it before you put up the luan and wrap it around the edges, or after and do some kind of treatment to disguise the fabric edge?

I used wall board with the wall paper-type stuff already on it. The kind you buy at the hardware store in 4x8 foot sheets. It is lightly patterned, like parchment paper, so it doesn't show dirt, and it's scrubbable. Also, we were able to find something light-colored, so it keeps the trailer from being dark inside, which was really important to me. We've had it in this trailer for 2 winters, 1 summer, and the same thing was in our old trailer for several years. We've never had it peel in heat & humidity or cold.

I just finished a DIY weekender. For that walls that will get dirty, I used a brown leather tooled looking vinyl I got at Hobby lobby. I used a spray on glue I got at Home Depot to attach it to lunar board on the walls. For the walls in the goose neck and areas are not that exposed to dirt I used a golden tan fake suede. I put a thin batting under the fabric and attached that with glue and staples to give the walls the soft touch feel. It turned out really nice. My ceiling is tongue and grove knotty pine.

**when you put the fabric on the luan, did you apply it before you put up the luan and wrap it around the edges, or after and do some kind of treatment to disguise the fabric edge?**Yes, I did measure and cut the luan and applied the suede before I put it up. I also wrapped screen door trim...those little thin strips of wood...with the suede and use them to hide the seams.

I put the fabric on after the walls were up. All of my edges are trimmed, so I didn't have to do the wrap around the edges. I sprayed the lunar board with glue and the back of the fabric. I had to help to hang the fabric so it wouldn't stick to everything between where I put the glue on and the wall. :-)

What kind of glue? I never used to think it would matter until someone used the wrong kind on the headliner of our car, and it would fall on our heads everytime the temperature warmed up the glue. Don't want that for my walls LOL!
Also what thickness luan, and what's lunar board? Never heard of that one.

I used spray on contact cement. So far, it isn't falling. And I used a very thin luan and put it up over the existing board...which was originally the stuff with the plastic wallpaper already on it that was mentioned in an earlier post.

I have slowly been reading the past threads and this one caught my eye ...we just recently bought a trailer and the LQ's are an empty shell ...4ft wall....Hubby doesnt know it but I am planning his winter project ...ha ha ha !! ....I was thinking panelling for the walls but now I think I like the idea of leather looking vinyl....I am curious how the glue worked out for you and I was wondering what is Luan ? Is that a thin board ? thank you...

Yes, Luan is what many doors are covered by. It is a thin mahogany, and is quite pretty just clear coated. ( Although it will be quite dark!). You can get Luan by asking for "Door Skins". I would add, you want to do all your electrical, plumbing, and put some kind of strips up on the ribs of the trailer, as well as insulate BEFORE you put any covering over the walls.

Thank you , Yes we plan on doing all the insulation, electrical and stuff like that before the walls go up. I am just going over the cosmetic looking stuff in my head ...Is this strong enough to not warp? in hot and cold climates?....thanks for all your input. Jennifer

Paneling warps not so much from mechanical problems, usually from uneven moisture absorption. When one surface is treated and finished, and the other side is bare, the wood will unevenly absorb moisture and warp. This is also true of solid wood.
As I've posted before, the simple solution is to coat the bare backside of the panels, with a couple coats of paint or varnish before they are installed.

I bought 4x8 RV panels from the trailer manufacturer at $20 a sheet and love them. They shipped mine along with my new trailer but they get new trailer deliveries all the time. I'd check in with a manufacturer.
Here's a picture of my conversion construction and ceiling/walls:
