Good place to camp and ride. We like to go in during the week, have a good choice of sites and basically have it to yourself for awhile...Most sites are out in the open, but a few backed up to creek and a couple on the other side in a more wooded area. Very nice barn, great tack shop and the owners and employees are super nice and helpful.Trails are varied as are levels of difficulty...plenty of water on most and Virginia Highland trails across road where you can ride forever!! We stayed for a week and really enjoyed it....campsite was under a big tree, on creek, in front of barn, with a corral across the creek if you wanted to use that. Really good riding and will always go back. (If you are barefoot, hoof-boots on front recommended) Love southwest Virginia!!

I agree Iron Mountain Horse Camp is great. The Odoms are great host & will go out of their way to help you in any way. You WILL need shoes or boots. Week days are best if you don't care for a crowd. Will be going there 3rd week in June for the 5 or 6 year. Yes, SW Va. has some of the best riding trails. I love the New River Trail also. Not hard and goes for 57 miles by New River. It has an access not far from Iron Mtn. but then again I live right here at all of them and love it all.

Yes, we liked it very much. It would be even better if they had a better marked trail system. It can be confusing if you have never been. Nice big stalls, shavings, clean campground.

Iron Mountain is one of the best campgrounds we have been to. We really enjoyed the riding and found our way around ok. We were fortunate enough to be taken on a very scenic ride by some people we met online and have since become friends. There's a great group of people that camp there regularly. Sheila has typed up rides of varying lengths to many of the neat places that are fairly easy to follow. I would highly recommend it!
