I am having a new Platinum LQ trailer built. This will be the first GN LQ trailer I have had. What is the forum members feeling on Air ride GN hitches? Good, bad, necessary. Or just more "Boy Toys"

Good and more toys.... Really don't see any bad with them.
I guess it really all depends on the size of the trailer and your funds allow you to have one. My opinion I would get one.
I used something called a star hitch a couple of weeks ago for the weekend and it did nothing for me. My opinion when I stopped it felt like the trailer was running upon the back of the truck and when taking off from a red light it felt like the trailer was dragging behind, kind of like a rubber band feeling. Guess it would be fine it you was on the hwy all day long and did not have to worry about starting and stopping.

I have the Cody air ride hitch on my 2010 Dodge. I tried the Star hitch that Hogtown is talking about. I had the same results. I just didn't like the feel of it.

The Cody hitch feels better?
Yes, If I remember right the "cody hitch" works in the B&W gooseneck hitch. The one I looked at has 1 airbag. The Star Hitch is not airride it works like a rocking chair. Just gives a nice un-safe feeling to me.
I like the cody hitch set up becasue it was cheaper but since I have a flatbed and the ball does not remove I could not use it. I have not checked to see if they have any other options that would work for me yet.

I have a 2010 23 ft Elite trailer with 9 ft. s.w. L.Q. 3 horse. I have a "cushion coupler" from Pop up gooseneck. I also have air-bags on my 3/4 ton 2008 Dodge diesel long bed 4 door. I LOVE this combination-the more load, the better the ride or with just one horse , cannot hardly tell it is there. They are pricey though, but I like it better than air bag types, no sloppy feeling. There is NO maintenance to it. Also it has the "quick latch" thing. Just back into it and it latches and it guides the ball into it if off slightly. Neat hitch for me anyway. Mr . Truck talks about it -look it up on internet. Good luck in your searches.

Just for confusion sake I've got 2 star performance hitches and would highly recommend them. Both of the trailers are large 12,000 plus. The truck I have now has a camera on the rear and I've watched the hitch while crossing rough terrain, and starting and stopping, and have not seen any excess movement. Just enough to take the jar out. Have never had the feeling it was ahead or behind. Haven't had to add any air to it since new either. Haven't checked lately but used to have a 30 day no questions return policy. Probably old age and my butt's getting numb, but I've never experienced the problems mentioned. Just My Opinion!!

The Cody hitch will NOT work if you have a flatbed with your hitch in the well...in fact, if you have a flatbed with the hitch in the well, you need to measure the distance from the hitch to the rubber collar of the cushion coupler model to make sure it will clear the flatbed that surrounds the well without interference.
