I'm thinking about putting some type of coating to protect the front of my aluminum trailer from road gravel/stones. Thinking about using a roll/brush on coating like they use in pickup boxes. Durabak or Herculiner which seem easy to apply. Has anyone tried this? How did it work for you? Seems to dry hard to protect from the sand but might only lessen the dent from a large/hard hit. Durabak has a smooth coating so it would be easier to wash the dirt off. Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

We use a spray on formula at our dealership that is thick and provides some good gravel protection.  Make sure you sand or rough up the paint on the area to be coated.  Make sure it is also free of dirt and dust.  We also use it for spraying fenders and the bottom 8 -12 inches on steel trailers.

Have you thought about a piece of aluminum tread plate? Got a machine shop close by that could break and install a piece? Make it as tall as you want...  http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/alum2.phtml?page=tread&LimAcc=$LimAcc
