i have an old trailer im trying to sell only i don't have a title to it, didn't get one when i bought it used 7yrs ago. i dont know the make or model of it either. what do i do. i have several interested in it till they find out there is no title. Is there anything to do?

I would call the DMV. I have read about people with similar issues getting a title and the trailer is listed as home made....not really sure about how you do it.

It's a pain in Ohio. To get one listed as homemade you have to take it to the highway patrol to get inspected at the cost of about $100 and a 3 -6 month waiting period. At the inspection, you have to provide proof of purchase of materials to build the trailer.
They will go over your trailer with a fine tooth comb to make sure there is no vin stamped anywhere. If they find one, you're s-o-l so to speak. I was told that they could make you trace the vin back to the last known owner and have them apply for a re-issued title then sign it over to you.
Not sure where you're from, but hopefully its an easier process for you.

I brought a trailer from a guy in AL few yrs ago and it just sold on a bill of sale and here in Sc you dont have to tag the trailer. I have a flat bed that i dont have a title to and i brought it from a dealer here in sc

How much does the trailer weigh? If it is under a certain weight it wont need a title. There are internet resources that can help you do a VIN search as well to see if it was titled in another state. The rules will vary by the state you live in. Call your local DMV and find out the rules for where you live. They will have a process to replace a lost title. Just ask.

I just sold a trailer to a person in WVA. In Ohio we don't need a title under 4K. I bought the trailer from a lady who bought it new from Ohio, so it has always been registered and tagged in Ohio until now.
I had a MSO from the original owner since it had not been titled. That went to the new owner as well as a bill of sale (I consigned it through a nearby trailer dealer). Everything was in order, to include the notary.
The poor new owner called frantic that WVA would NOT register the trailer even though she had the MSO. What they wanted was the registration certificates!! Well, it was good that the lady I bought it from had given me one with the weight on the statement as well as the MSO and I had the one from last year.
I didn't hear back from her, so I am assuming it worked for her, but that was really strange. I guess they wanted proof someone owned it and it wasn't stolen, although the MSO had the original owner and me on it.

JBSNY, Yes that is true about the 4k and no titling. However, if the trailer is over 3k and not otherwise noted as a travel trailer, etc. it is registered as a commercial trailer with higher fees and pro-rated registraion time frames according to the last 4 digits of your social. Ridiculous. My 3 horse 18' GN is "commercial" at roughly 3500 lbs empty. Never earned a dollar off my horses in my life.
I dealt with the titling stuff on my camper trailer. I had it weighed and at 8600 lbs empty, it requires a title of some sort whether it was a travel trailer or commercial hauler.
My understanding is that if the trailer has a water source (tank), a place to cook, a place to sleep, and a (portable or permanent) toilet it can be registered as a travel trailer. Those titles are apparently easier to get.
OP, You will have to call the DMV/BMV of your state and ask.

If that is the case....throw a jug of water, a coleman stove,less the propane cylinder, an air mattress and a bucket in your horse trailer and re-register it as a travel trailer...

I think the water tank has to be "permanent" but yeah, according to the inspector the rest of what you mentioned would be fine. That's basically all I had in it at the time.
