I have a 14K dump elctrice over hydraulic dump trailer that uses a deep cell battery.  When I load the trailer to capacity I can only get about 6 dumps on a fully charged battery before i have to hook up jumper cables to a battery that has the engine running to maintain full power.

I pull this trailer with a 99 F250 Super duty with dual batteries.  How do I wire this system so I can plug my dump trailer in at my bumper and turn a switch where i can use my batteries with my truck running instead of messing around with jumper cables?

I hear that you must do it right or you can blow up your truck batteries and cause severe problems.

Hey Tom, I did mine and my horse trailer this way and it works perfect.  I bought some 4ga cable from a local wrecker supply company along with the quick disconnects (like is use for winches and wrecker jumper cables, northern tool has them too)  Run one cable to the trucks poss. side of the battery and the other to a good ground on the trucks frame, then do the same on the trailer side.  This is called a loop charge system and I have had mine done on 3 different trucks now and works like a charm.  Will charge trailer batteries while truck is running and when using trailer it will have plenty of power and will not drain like it does with the small 10 or 12ga wire that is used from the factory.
