I am looking into the Champion 3500/4000w portable gen. It sells for about 300. I am wondering if anyone has owned on or uses one and if its an ok gen. Not worried about noise and cant afford a honda and refuse to pay that much. Rather buy another horse.

I use to think that too until I came into the Honda EU2000i, it is an amazing machine and doesn't use much hay... I am glad I have it now a world of difference over the low priced generators. It is like going from a Toyota pulling a gooseneck to a 2011 F450... Night and day difference and your neighbors will love you too.

I appreciate a quite generator when camping. There is nothing worse than coming in after a long day of riding and trying to set and relax with the neighbors generator running as loud as a bulldozer.

I was using a 3500 watt w/ a briggs engine that was obnoxiously loud. We would only use it after 9 am and before 6 pm and briefly at that and no shorter than about 100ft back in the woods. I think it was right around 400 bucks when we got it a couple years ago. Just yesterday as I was looking around Craigslist, I came across a brand new in box Generac iX2000 inverter gen for $350. I jumped on it. It may not be an 1100 dollar Honda, but it's still much quieter than the other one for less money. Sending in the warranty card today :)
I'd say be patient and watch Craigslist. Yamaha and Honeywell inverter generators come up on there all the time reasonably. The honda's come up, too, but they're still around the $800 range used.
