My current trailer has little latches instead of the locks that my old trailer had on both doors.  While I find this MUCH more convenient, I have been wondering if there is a purpose for the locks.  The key (751) seems to be the same on all of them so what is the point? Anyone know?

Less of a chance they will be left open.  With every RV owner having at least 1 set of 751 keys, to "lock" something would be pointless.  Also keeps kids from messing with them.

Your current trailer's mfg. found that he could save about three bucks by installing the non-locking acess doors, then add it as an option for the trailer by charging 30 bucks for locking water/electric acess doors, then another added charge if they were all keyed the same...!! All about the money, if not they all would have keyed alike locking doors.

I agree with Tresvolte.  Say your somewhere and someone gets mad at you and is walking by your trailer and there is no lock on the water door, look how easy it would be to pour something into you water.

You think the 751 key is everywhere, how many people has a I think it is an SP1? key for the tack room door on non LQ trailers?  I have 2 S&H trailers right now 1 a 2004 and 1 a 1999 both with the same keys.  The people accross the street has a TW trailer with the same keys as well.

Since the "key" discussion is going and you all know what you are talking about... I just bought a 1996 Sooner LQ trailer and the person I bought it from didnt have the keys for the LQ, window's or anything. Would anyone of you know what the key # for the LQ would be?

Call Universal Trailers and get hold of parts, and tell them what make and model of trailer you have (will probably need the year and VIN number); and they should be able to tell you what information you need to supply them with so that they can get you keys.  Look closely at you door latches, and see if there is any numbers or letters on the lock tumblers.

You can look on the cyl where you would put the key and most of them are makred with 3 to 4 dig number which is the key code. My Sundowner has 1 key code for the main LQ door that also fits the manger doors then has another key for the drop down windows.

It really amazed me the number of trailers I could unlock with my keys, makes me wounder how many people have tried to unlook mine while at a trail ride or playday. The good thing is the dead bolt lock on ours is not a factory lock and we do kep it locked.

I've seen door keys on cars match up before. Only so many key codes they can go through. As far as the 96 Sooner goes, You probably have to call the manufacturer. The older ones will usually only have a letter on them which tells what blank it will be. Then the key code is actually separate.

I tried to contact Sooner, but they were bought out by Exiss in 2005. But they only bought the name, so they dont have any records of anything. I guess I will have to have a locksmith out to re-key it. Thanks.
