My question is whether or not an aluminum floor that has started pitting (no holes yet...) can be fixed / stopped without completely replacing the floor. I am wanting to buy an aluminum trailer, but can not afford a fancy new one, the one I'm looking at looks like it has just started pitting, so could I acid wash it and then rhino line it?? WOuld that be a fix or no? Thank-you KT

KT-I did exactly that with mine. Trying to remember how many years ago...probably 10? And it has held up just fine. It does not cushion the floor so I still use mats though.

I'd be interested in what you find... I thought the person who was going to put the rhino-like liner in his trailer had a great idea until another poster said you had to have a respirator (smart move) to do that.. with the muriatic acid wash.

I'd be better for me to have it done, but like someone else pointed out, it all depends on the operator. And I am finding a lot of the folks aren't doing that great a job anymore.

I thought about werm coating, but there is no one in Ohio who does it and while I like a road trip, a long one more than a couple hourse is less appealing for me.

I just bought an alum trailer, the floor seems in good shape, but I would like to coat it so I could have one less thing to be concerned about in the future. :-)

We pulled the matts when we bought our LQ trailer  and the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned out in 10 years.  There was some corrosion and even 3 small ( 1/4 to 1/2 " ) holes all the way thru.   I freaked out of course...  we took it to a friend who welds aluminum and crawled all over and under the trailer... told us it was so well built it shouldn't be a problem as long as we kept the matts out inbetween uses and kept it dry.  he's since made patches for where the holes were.   meanwhile I taked to the guy at the spray in liner place- he said they could do it but it would be at least $500.   Then called Hart and they recomended not doing it since there was no long term data on how it would hold up, plus if it got even a tiny crack moisture could get thru and not get out, which would cause further corrosion.
