I have a 3H slant that is used most often for trailering one 17hh mare. I wondered if anyone has any suggestions for securely fastening the front divider to the second divider so the mare can have a larger compartment when I am only trailering her.

Well, I do the same but mine is a 2 horse. I have a carabiner that I run from a tie ring to the divider. But...I have telescoping dividers so there is a pin with a ring on top that is my connecter to the carabiner. You could also use a short chain and a rope snap to hold them back I believe.

Why don't you just take the divider out?

I have a 4-horsegooseneck and I take out the last divider so my 17 hand TB can have a double stall.  I use the first stall for storage and the second stall for my smaller horse.  If you mainly just use it to haul your big horse, I would just take a divider out.

All the trailers I've owned over the past 20 years have had a ring welded on top of the panel ( near the slam latch) and double ended snap that I clip the two panels together with. The rear most panel clips to the wall, and each successive panel clips to it.

So in my 3H or 4H trailer, I can hold all the panels open.

Our Silver Star's are spring loaded plus we'll secure them with a short length of cotton rope or rubber strap.

I rode with a girl who had 2 Belgians and a basic 3 horse slant. I asked her how she stuffed the horses in there and she showed me. The first divider was opened and layed against the second divider. They drilled a hole in the top of each divider and secured it with some type of U-bolt through each hole.  This gave the first horse extra room but not too much room and the second horse got the last stall. She did not have a rear tack so that horse had extra room as well.

We have a 4H but most of the time only bring 2 horses (although big ones. We leave all the dividers in. We load the first horse(either 16h or 16.2h), latch the second divider in its natural spot and use a bungee cord to secure the the first divider to the second: the front of stall wont' be much wider, but the back is obviously a lot bigger. The Second horse is loaded (17.2h draft) as the last divider as the option of being secure on the parallel to the wall. You could always take one of the divider, but it's kind of a pain to re-install them (at least with 2 people)

On our Exiss 3 horse we mounted a ring to the wall with a stainless eye-strap.Stainless screws. Then double snaps.Got the items at a Marine store. It amazes me that THEY(manufactures) don't have it setup to start with.My old 1995 CM Ranger had o/rings and snaps to fold/hold dividers .Not everyone uses the trailer for just three broke normal size horses or even horses.Taking the dividers in and out is a royal pain.
