I went to Equifest this past weekend and looked at the Equipedic pads that are priced at $190. Does anyone ride in this pad? I like the claim that it assists with cooling the horses back and provides unrestricted blood flow for increased performance. Concept sounds reasonable, however the price is a bit hard to justify if it doesn't do all things as stated. And my saddle fits my mare great with just a plain pad. However, I would like to ride in something that does indeed help keep the back cooler and my horse comforable when riding on hot and humid mid-west days and not just cooler down the gullet/spine area as most newer style pads do. So I was wondering if anyone can validate the claims that the manufacture makes with a true test of riding long miles.

Hi There IcePony, I did see the cute Icelandics. I have always wanted one. :) Very cute and smooth too. We did a day trip there instead of spending the night so I was getting very tired by the afternoon. I loved watching Peggy Brown. She was my favorite.

A lot of endurance riders use these pads. If you are looking for comfort and practicality- ask an endurance rider! I have the Skito endurance pad and if it is the same material (pad inserts)When it is cold out, the pads are really hard at first but do warm up with the horses body temp. Definitely a nice pad. Well made.

Had one... sold it. Nice quality pad. Didn't see any extra cooling capabilities more than my skito pad. For my preferences, it was too thick.. didn't meld to the horse and made me feel quite perched in the saddle. Also made the saddle more apt apt to roll. A regular skito pad is still my choice hands down. All depending on vendor, they run about $160 incl shipping. Something called the 'dryback' will set you back another 50 or so but I've heard not worth the extra... so have not tried it.

Thanks for the replies. I tried calling the company last week to see if they would offer a group discount as several members from my riding club were interested. Didn't think it would hurt to ask for a little discount when purchasing several pads, especially since they have a buy one get one free on the English style.
Unfortunately, No one ever called me back. Too bad too, cause we were ready to try them out.

I guess I just do not see how a pad with synthetic ANYTHING can be cooling on a horse's back! There is no way the back can breathe, therefore how does it cool? I will take a high quality wool pad with the highest percentage of virgin wool over ANY of the others anyday.

I have not used an Equipedic pad myself but know of two people who were unhappy with the foam in the pad 'bunching up' I guess you could say. One was pulled from a ride after it sored her horse. One of my friends rides dressage and likes her pad. Now, she doesn't ride in it for hours like the other two do or did. I don't know what type of saddle you use but the HAF pads really do allow heat to pass through the pad if heat dissapation is what you're after.

I own an equipedic pad. It works well for my Walker who is tall and slender but not for my Quarter horse. I haven't tried to clean it yet so I really don't know how that will be.

Yup it ws bad. A friend was holding the dirrections for the course and took off with them. I had no idea what to do after entering It will take a while to live that one down.........The lady on the icelandic
