Hi, new to this forum and I have a decision to make. I am trying to decide between a new 4Star 3 horse or a very nice (mint used 6 times) 2005 Logan 5 horse. The Logan is more trailer than I need but comes with all the bells and whistles like mangers etc...The 4 Star is new but a basic 3 horse. The 4 Star is almost 6k more. Any opinions.

Depends on what kind of towing vehicle. I'd think the five horse would need at least a one ton truck if not bigger so you'd best double check.

Personally I don't like mangers. Had a horse climb in one once in a 2-horse straight load and flip himself upside down into the empty stall next to his. No mangers also give a big, long bodied horse more room.

Just my $.02.

BTW the asking on the Logan is 21500. I cannot seem to find much to compare it to. How does that price seem? The Logan's in service date was June 06. My angst is over whether I buy a basic more expensive (probably better built 3 horse) or a 5 horse trailer that will coste less and have more stuff. Thanks in advance.

I currently have a 2006 Logan XTR 4 horse. It does not have the mangers. But does have a mid tack, hay rack and a hydraulic jack plus all the standard stuff that the XTR's come with. I bought it 18 months ago for $18,000 US. I see you are in Canada and I suspect your are quoting Canadian Dollar prices.  I'm sure the mangers were a couple of thousand dollar option.

The Logans are a mid range steel frame/aluminum skin trailer. They include a lot of items that are optional on other trailers.. Water tank, Tilt out saddle racks, drop down windows street and curb side, electric jack, Vortex sprayed horse area, and all the larger Logans have included Goodyear G range tires. I think they make a reasonible trailer for the price. They are not an all aluminum trailer like 4Star, Platinum, Hart, But they are not priced like those trailers.

I've had two Logans, and have not really had any serious problems with either trailer. The few parts I've needed, ( horse broke off a tie ring, broken window etc) the company has been fair about spare parts pricing and gotten them to me promptly.

I think you could do a lot worse than either trailer. If the Logan fits your needs, don't be afraid to purchase it. There are several write ups on this website about how Logan builds their trailers. Make sure you read those reviews.

I think for resale you would have an easier time selling a 3 horse than a 5 horse
