Hello Everyone! I'm hoping someone can help us. We are thinking of purchasing a camera to keep an eye on the horses while traveling. Is there anyone particular brand that anyone would recommend or any websites and/or stores that sell them? Any information would be helpful. We have researched a few, but would like to get some feedback from other people who have them or have looked into getting one. Thank you!

We have 3 cameras on our LQ trailer. One on the headache rack of the truck shoots down at the hitch, one mounted in the inside corner shooting down at the the horses, and the other is on the top back of the trailer that helps with backing and merging. All are hooked up to a Pioneer  AVIC Z2 Nav system installed in the truck. Pictures are crystal clear and sound is very good also. Good in the daylight, in the rain, and in the dark.

We tried a wireless system a few years ago that we bought at Equine Affair and were disappointed greatly. It was right at $500 at the time and was unreliable to say the least. IMHO, Hardwire is the way to go if you want good clarity and need it to work 100% of the time!

Much more important than the display in the cab are the types of cameras you use.  Since you can not display what you have not captured.

Maybe Bushycreek could elaborate on what cameras they used.

Audiovox Backup Camera

An audiovox backup camera will allow you to see  what is behind your RV or motorhome. This can help you prevent an expensive accident while backing up or driving your motorhome because you can see more than just what is in front of you. The small cost of adding a rear view system can save you headaches and money if an accident is prevented.

Turn your Pioneer GPS Navigation system into a Night-Vue color back-up camera monitor with this well designed unit.

Simple kit contains color camera, 65 foot cable and adapter for plugging into monitor input box.

Thank you for your comments. Any additional information on purchasing a camera for inside the horse trailer would be helpful. We have found several websites to purchase a camera with a monitor being the truck. Someone even mentioned to us about buying a camera with a monitor from Best Buy, any thoughts on that?

Have had camera in our 3H BP for 4 years now. Purchased a Sony 1/3" CCD for about $100 new on ebay. Also got a used monitor(5.7") for about #35.Hardwire the system with RCA cord(disconnect at the truck plug in). Total cost about $175.00, peace of mind--priceless. When buying a camera, CCD is much better than cheaper CMOS(which are in some not so cheap kits). Make sure the camera has a low F.L.(focal length), ours is 3.6mm(lower number offers wider field of view). The Sony came with 6 or so IR(infrared) LEDs which offer total view of all three stalls when pitch dark outside. The camera is a B/W(I know what colors myhorses are) and as such offers better resolution than color units. Good luck with your choice.

P.S--Did I say peace of mind priceless, past July hauled to NBHA Youth World, our gelding was in last stall(one by foldable tack wall). Well he's lazy and likes leaning on the wall. Must have hit a bump just right and he took the wall off the pins and was resting on him. With camera, spotted problem and was able to fix(he was fine). Without camera,we would have probably been going another 2-3 hours before next stop.
