I'm trying to find some alternatives to the VERY limited selection of wallboard in stores around here. The nearest Home Depot is a 4 hour drive, and it seems when I do it make it there with my shopping list, they're out of stock on everything I wanted.
So, what if you used an A-grade plywood, put a seal coat on it, and then put the heavy paintable wallpaper over it, and -- you guessed it! -- Painted it! Anyone have any good reasons not to do this that I haven't thought of yet?
Another more expensive option that I am still considering is again using plywood but glueing faux leather on it, and using that for a few wall panels. I'd rather not run through a lot of fabric and board while figuring out what kind of glue is best -- any recommendations?

I covered the walls in this trailer with MDO(sign board, very smooth) spackled the seams and wallpapered just like you would a house, trailer has been built for 7 years now and is holding up great.

I covered my walls with faux leather after taking all the wallpaper I put in down. Wallpaper did ok, but since I don't leave my AC on all the time, and live in the south, it did start peeling some. I ended up using luan plywood cut to fit the walls, covered it in contact cement, covererd the back of the 'leather' with cement, fitted it together and hung the luan. It so far is working great. I did put up a little boarder of self stick wallpaper in the bathroom area and it came off real quick.

You can do anything inyour living quarter that you can do in your stick-built house. Your imagination is your only limitation. I used fabric in one living quarter I did for a customer. She went to the fabric shop and picked out just the pattern and color she wanted. I then soaked the fabric in undiluted liquid fabric starch and applied it to the walls. Six years later the job still looks good! This application also works well for cabinet doors.

This trailer is a 2003, I was in it yesterday, no issues at all, I think you have to use a very slick plywood for the walls as I said above I use MDO, then use a good wallpaper sizing. I live in Kentucky we see upper 90's in the summer and these trailers both sit outside. Neither one has had any problems.

Marla, Did the fabric starch change the color of the fabric at all? I assume you wring it out somewhat and then apply it? How long does that take to dry/set?

No, the starch does not affect the color of the fabric. Yes, I did GENYLY SQUEEZE out the excess moisture. Then, apply just like wallpaper. It takes a couple of hours to dry here in the arid southwest. I assume it would take somewhat longer if the climate is humid.

I really like the wallpaper in your trailer, what type of surface did you apply it to?? My Merhow has the white shiney aluminum walls. Did you have to deal w/rivets?? I have looked at the wallpaper that looks like wood panneling / but, I think that would look to chincy. thanks, Jean

hello, saw your note about putting material on walls, was it just a light cotton or a something heavy?? did you put anything on the ceiling??? I would like to try to put up a vinyl liner or some cotton material, because of the curve in the nose of the gooseneck(bunk area) Do you think this would hold up? maybe I could use spray glue. what are your thought & if you every tried this. I await your answer. Thanks, Jean my reg. e-mail adddress is darksladytango@yahoo.com

What I used was a medium weight cotton with a brushed cotton finish. I did not put fabric on the ceiling. I used corrugated steel for that. The fabric has held up very well and is easily removeable.
