Hi  - A question concerning mangers; I don't think I want mangers, instead opt for drop down windows on tail (cost compromise!) I was thinking the mangers take up a lot of "horse room" when I could hang a hay bag and they would haul more comfortably. I just wanted opinions! Am considering an 8' wide three horse 4 Star.  Thanks in advance.

Don't like mangers... seen horses get hurt trying to climb up into the manger.

Also, don't haul with hay bags hanging.  I will hang a hay bag when I stop and remove it when I start up again.

If you click on the search button, and under "keyword" enter mangers and set the default for one year, you will find many postings about differing views of using trailers with and without mangers.

I agree, I don't care for mangers either.  When I had my current trailer built I was advised to have the mangers installed for better resale.  When I researched this out on the internet most of the trailers did infact have mangers.  It's a tough call...........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But there are those of us that may not want mangers and you can't find one that's used unless it has mangers! I know, I've been looking...

Your best bet is to flip a quarter!  We have owned trailers with and without mangers and in my own opinion, I will never have another trailer (with a LQ) without manger!

Most poeple that have them love them, then the people that don't have them will tell you stories why you should not have them.  You will more than likely have more trouble with a hagging hay bag than you would from mangers.

We love the tons of extra storage and we have a 50 gallon water tank mounted in the bottom of ours just for the horses.

If you are buying a trailer with no LQ then mangers would not be needed and you could use your trailer for other things as well.

Great choice going with drop down windows on the rear!  Something else that is a must for us!

Mangers are the best invention since sliced bread.  I also have trailer with mangers and another w/out.  I hate taking my trailer w/out managers the storage is so much less and it’s so much easier just to throw hay or grain in the manger.  I always have hay in front of my horses when traveling.  I like to have something to eat when I’m traveling so I’m sure my horse likes to eat too.

As far as having a horse crawling up a manger or getting hurt with mangers in the trailer I’ve never had a problem with any horses I hauled.  I’ve hauled horses from 1 to 20 and never had problem.  We have good size head, heel, and barrel horses and they have always had plenty of room in the trailer.  Our trailer now is only 7’5” wide and old one was only 7’.  Both had mangers both had plenty of room so 8’ will be plenty wide for “horse room”.

Having a mangers is a must for me storage and no hay bags is great.  Hope this helps any questions just keep asking.

If you are going to use the trailer to haul something besides horses, like an ATV, then it's nice to NOT have mangers.

If it's strickly a horse trailer. I love mangers.  Especially in an 8' wide trailer.  You will have more than enough room for the horses.  And Non-manger solutions for feed on the road all suck.  Hay bags, Nets etc

We had a quarter horse that would get up into the manger and get hurt. So we got rid of that trailer.

I have only owned stock trailers. I am on my first LQ trailer and I love the mangers. They got filled quickly.
