I am considering this Keifer trailer (found on HTW) and know I like the floor plan and brand of trailer. However, it does have a stain on the ceiling. The current owner says this was from a previous owner's improper installation of an antennae and has been fixed and does not leak. I haven't seen it in person as the trailer is located in another state.
A pic of the stain is attached. Would you consider this trailer or write it off? Thank you for your opinions.

I would definately consider the trailer. Before the ceiling stain is coated, it would be imperative that the original leak is properly repaired. Usually this requires nothing more than recaulking seams and roof fittings. All the flanges should be inspected for cracks and damaged caulking.
As retendo stated, Kilz is a good primer. It is widely used in fire renovations, because of its ability to seal and hide a damaged surface. Other products that work well include shellac, and various wood sealers. It is better to apply several thin coating of materials, letting each one completely dry, than to apply heavier wet coats that can further warp the panel.
If the panel is buckled, it will be up to your discretion about its replacement. It's not a difficult job, and if the price of the trailer is low enough, might be worth the trouble.

I think the biggest problem you're going to have is that looks like carpet on the ceiling not just paneling if so Kilz won't help. But my eyes aren't what they used to be so that may not be carpet, but I would check on whether that is carpet or not.

I would be very concerned about molds in that ceiling. I bought a trailer once that has alot smaller stain than that. Everytime I spent the night in it, I woke up with a bad headache. The longer I stayed in it, the worst the headaches became. I ended up having to have it tested. It cost several thousand dollars to allivate the issues.
Several years later, I developed allergies I never had before the mold trailer. Now, I am even allergic to hay. My doctors attributed it to the mold exposure from that trailer.

Dixie looks to be right- it looks like carpet. Kiefer used it a lot in the early to mid '00s-05s or so. If you'll look, the stain is very heavy at the antenna itself. So it is likely that the antenna was the offending leak. And yes- the carpet is not a very forgiving surface to hide a leak. Personally- I wouldn't categorically write it off, but if it is a nice enough trailer I think I would want to replace the ceiling material and while it is down is the perfect time to look for any mold, etc. as BCR says. Sorry for my mistake. I thought it was the standard hard board paneling. Obviously you would not want to seal or paint carpeting.

LOL!! Don't think I would try to prime/paint carpet either... I don't think I've ever seen carpet on a LQ ceiling..... Must have been an idea of an old "throw back hippy" from the 60's/70's!!

RTSmith is right; it is a carpet like material......soft touch ceiling. We have it in our 04 KB. We had a small leak and also have some staining of the material. We are considering putting the "faux tin" ceiling in the living area of the lq (cause the bed and bath ceiling is fine and there is a natural line at those points) after removing the soft touch material and checking for mold of course. Do not know how much that is going to cost yet but our trailer is still the best set up for us that we have seen.

THAT CARPET IS SOMTHING WE USE TO USE IT IS FROM PLETCHER SALES OUT OF BRISTOL IN. PHONE # IS 574-848-9488. IT COMES IN A COUPLE OF SHADES THAT FABRIC IS CALLED MILLIKEN, THE COLOR IS PEARL CREAM, PART # 1020. I WOULD MAKE SURE THE LEAK IS TAKEN CARE. OF CUT THAT OUT AND SPRAY SOME MOLD SEALER ON THE EXPOSED WOOD. THEY CARRY A MOLD SEALER AT MENARDS. MAKE SURE THAT YOU WEAR PROPPER ATIRE WHEN MESSING WITH THE MOLD (FACE MASK EXC.) YOU CUT IT STRAIT ACROSS TO A 4X7 OR 8. THEN SPRAY THE CUT FABRIC WITH A SPRAY GLUE. WE USE WEB76, MAKE SURE THAT YOU COVER IT GOOD AND GIVE IT ONLY A COUPLE OF MIN TO LET THE GLUE SET UP. THEN APLY IT TO THE CENTER WORK YOUR WAY ALL THE WAY TO YOUR EDGES. YOU CAN EATHER FIND WOOD BATTEN TO COVER YOUR SEAMS OR YOU COULD WRAP 2 PIECES OF BATTEN IN THE SAME MATERIAL. AND APLY THEM TO THE SEAMS. GOOD LUCK. ( THE FABRIC IS VERRY CHEEP ON YOUR WALLET)

funny to have just found this- the trailer came from Select to begin with. I think i will just run it up there and let you guys replace whatever needs to be done. The trailer is great otherwise. I have horrible allergies and am extremely sensitive to mold, so i dont anticiipate big issues there, but glad to know you can replace it. Its too nice of a trailer to not be fixed.
