Anyone use a picket hobble? I have seen people around here use a steel pin in the ground with an attached length of rubber coated rope, one guy used a garden hose to cover the rope, but they use what amounts to a leather collar around the animal's neck to attach the rope (no halter). Just wondered how the hobble attached to something like this would work. Any comments? Getting into the camping season and usually use a highline to tie. Just thought it would be nice to let the horse lie down--typically mine won't when tied to the highline.

We used to use a steel dog tie out that had the swivel on it and snap a 20 ft rope to it when we camped. We snapped it to the halter though. Not a collar. We trained the horses to not freak when a rope got wrapped around them so it made teaching them to be staked out easier.

I stumbled across this site the other day. www.lazyliz.com She has a really neat deal with a wire cable covered with some sort of hose looking stuff so it won't tangle. Says something about the pin they use won't stab the horse if he rolls on it and they have neck collars. I thought about trying it, but my horse would probably freak and hurt himself during the training session.

Whoops! Hit enter before typing. The lazy liz system is very similar to what I was talking about in my original post. I have seen these used with success. The price is actually pretty reasonable.
