Ok I've already talked to the vet about this. But this is what is going on. My mare foaled on Wed. Everything was normal, passed intact placenta, foal up, nursing. Well today, Sat, I noticed on the mare some bloody discharge from her vulva not alot but there. No temp, eating, drinking, protective of foal. Vet said if any sudden changes to contact him immed. Well I've not had a mare bleed after foaling like this. Has anyone else had this happen to them? She's not a maiden mare.

Why not have the vet come out to check on her and the foal anyway?? Cheaper than waiting, treating for infection, or losing the mare and trying to nurse the foal. She could have a tear in her caused by straining or the foal's feet.

My mare did this, and she had a scrape from the foals hooves right before they came out.I had to stick my hand up in there and put Nitrofurisine on it.I was very lucky that the hooves did not make a puncture .They also did a uterine flush.

Mom and foal are doing fine. No signs of bleeding today. When the filly was born she was walking on her rear pasterns, today we are up off the pasterns. We have had nothing but 40+winds and its kinda funny when a wind gust catches her and almost blows her over. This stallion has always given us foals with great minds. Everyday we go out and work she shows no fear and has always come up to us. She is very personable. Pretty chestnut with some roaning on the hip and a few hairs for a star, oh and the softest look in her eyes. Don't know where the roaning came from. Will get some pictures up on our web site soon.
