How many quarts of oil does a 6.6 Duramax diesel motor take? My 1/2 ton GMC takes 6 and I am thinking this motor will take at least 6. I can't find it in the manual.....

I just Googled it.....It said ten quarts of 15w 40. We put in 8 quarts of 15w 40 and stopped just in case. Wow! We need to head back to the store and pick up some more oil.

Duramax 6.6 diesel.... 10 quarts total, including filter change. What kind of 15W40 you using?? Ever considered 5W40 Mobile Delvac 1 Synthetic or Shell Rotella-T Synthetic ?

The previous owner used Rotella T Synthetic and we are continuing to use the same oil. He kept a good maintenance log book.

My 2000 and 2005 powerstrokes took 15 quarts each.  My 2008 V10 takes 7 quarts.

FWIW, I used Rotella in the 2000 most of the time but found that my 2005 liked Chevron Delo 15w-40 better.  Both of these brands and others are available at your local Wally World.  I also used the Motorcraft oil with good results, but I'm sure the Duramax would spit it out ;-)
