Pulling double is no big deal and legal in most places, Although I would pull the HT in the 2nd position so if something did go south you can get the horses out.

http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm In some states, such as CA, to pull a double requires a Class A with endorsements

There are a lot of people down here that pull their wagons behind the horse trailers. I think there is suppose to be a lenght limit of truck, trailer and trailer. So you need to check that out.

I think that it is legal, as long as the trailer hooked to the towing vehicle is a 5th wheel or gooseneck.  At one time, we considered getting a small fold-down camper to pull behind our stock trailer, as we didn't have a living quarters trailer at that time.  The fold-down unit would be small enough that it could easily be unhooked and manuevered by hand if needed, either to gain access to the horses, or if we got into a location that required any backing.

I have seen it done, but it's not common.

There are legalities to it, yes there are required endoersements for it, also, I do believe(could be wrong) the front trailer would have to be a fifth wheel, not a gooseneck, though they are close i know, I am pretty sure that is a stipulation.

Beyond that, it just doesnt seem like a great idea to me....but I am no expert.

I see people do stuff like that all the time, most I would guess aren't legal. Most, if not all states the first trailer has to be 5th wheel, not gooseneck hitch. There are a lot of other concerns such as braking, GCWR, etc. I would try to avoid towing double.

I have done this in several states, and there is several states where it is illegal, especially in the northwest.  If you plan on doing it much go to the DOT website and find the individual state requirements.  Also it is a good idea to get the endorsements so you do not find yourself trapped somewhere.  The front trailer can be either fifth wheel or gooseneck in most states.  Happy travels
