One more benefit to any trailer narrower than 8'.....The running board is sure handy for standing on to open drop-down windows and sliders.
Or to use as a mounting block !!
I don't have full running boards either. I have to carry a little step stool all around my trailer... inside to open the roof vents, outside to open the drop downs, next to the horse to get up .. : )

It really just depends on what your hauling needs are, we have Belgians, big Belgians, we have a custom trailer that is the full 102" and over 8' tall inside, smaller wouldnt work for us. But honestly, if we were hauling smaller horses, I would still go for the 8 wide, but 7.5 is still way better than the 6 and 6.5. So if you dont have to have an 8 wide and the 7.5 is more in your price range, then I would say go for which trailer you like better and which one is the better deal :)

On an LQ, 8' for sure especially if it is a slant. Resale, larger horses, living space = no question. On a non-LQ, I sill like the 8' especially in the 2+1 and 5 horse configurations which are getting more popular. Then you have the option of the bigger box stall for babies, an extra pony, more hay, whatever.
