I have had my trailer a year now and want advice on wheel maintenance. It is a 2008 3H 7ft LQ Blue Ribbon. I was thinking of having the wheel bearings repacked and brakes adjusted. It has been driven approx. 6K miles. Since it was brand new, and I didn't drive it all that much, is it premature to have them repacked or is it a good maintenance measure?

Thanks

Here is a link to Dexter Axles website. This should take you straight to the maintenance schdule for up to 8,000# axles. http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/6-8K_Service_Manual_3-08/Maintenance_Schedule_2-08.pdf

Hope this helps...

I definitely would have any new trailer checked and repacked. I bought a new trailer and used it locally. Before a long trip was taken, I pulled the wheels to check things out, and found no lubrication on any of the bearings on one side of the trailer. The spindles, bearings and hubs were irreparably damaged, and all had to be replaced. A long drive would have resulted in a complete failure, and possibly an accident.

Once your trailer is properly serviced and you know its mechanical condition, you can plan your maintenance in yearly or mileage increments. Many wheel bearings need no attention for at least 20k miles, particularly if synthetic lubricants are used. If your state requires brake inspections, then the wheels will have to be pulled and repacked annually.

Thank you both for the info and advice. I will take it in for the maintenance. I have not experienced any problems pulling it this year, but I want it to last as long as possible.

Thanks!
