Hi...I was just sent this info. Please crosspost and let's find this horse's owner. Please contact the Texas Rangers DIRECTLY ...not me. ** A lady in Longview, Texas is in possession of a Palomino gelding, approximately 14 BD hands tall. The horse has a heart seven brand on the left shoulder. Patricia Mitchell left the horse at this lady's place & hasn't been back. Patricia Mitchell is currently under investigation by Texas Rangers for internet fraud. I'm sure she defrauded somebody out of this horse we just need to locate the victim. If anyone has information in regards to this horse please contact Larry Gray, Director Of L.E. TSCRA at 1-800-242-7820 or TSCRA Special Ranger Jim Vanover at 903-693-2373 or mobile 903-692-0093.Chuck Kingcking@cdfa.ca.govDept. of Food & AgricultureBureau of Livestock IdentificationOffice: (916) 657-3544Cell: (916) 203-4521Fax: (916) 653-5190THANKS!

If law enforcement does not know the owner of the brand, what is the point of those brand inspections out west?

Here's what it says online about TX brands..  Seems like law enforcement could track down the original owner this way.

Texas
The state of Texas
records brands by county.  Texas brands are recorded with the county clerk of the county in which the animals are located.  Each Texas county also sends a copy of the brand registration to the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, who enters the brands into a database for retrieval by their officers / inspectors, and can be used by other law Enforcement entities in their theft investigations. Texas also stations over 70 inspectors at livestock sales facilities around the state to monitor animals, as well as sellers passing through these facilities.
The organization has jurisdiction in both Texas & Oklahoma for its Law Enforcement functions, and Field Inspectors are Commissioned in Texas & or Oklahoma, as Sworn Peace Officers. The association is also the go-to agency for Texas Brand Inspection documents for those animals traveling to or through mandatory inspection states.
Our thanks to S. M. Clark, Brand Inspector with the TX & SW Cattle Raisers Assn Law Enforcement / Inspections Division for providing this information.

The brand won't necessarily tell them who currently owns him, only who may have owned him in the past. If this was an internet fraud case, the horse may have come from another state then Texas, so they are likely covering all bases. Hope they find the horses legal owner.

Hope they have scanned him for a microchip. Just wish there was a standard microchip company for horses though. This would making finding horse and owner a lot easier.

Instead of fraud, it may have been a "drop off" by someone no longer able to care for the horse.
